To date, May Gurney has designed and installed hydro generation turbines at five South West Water sites - at Morewellham Quay, Meldon Dam, Avon, Bratton Fleming and Colliford - and is currently looking at additional sites for South West Water and another water company. These are the first of many hydro generation sites which will be released for tendering by UK water utilities.
Luke Fenn, May Gurney’s renewables business manager, said:
“We’re strongly focused on this growing market and are offering existing and new clients turnkey solutions for hydro generation schemes.
“One of our key differentiators is that we understand and can allow for the fact that these schemes are secondary to the client’s core activity - water distribution and treatment. We always make sure that the water treatment process is unaffected by the equipment we install.
“We will be bringing forward new processes and working alongside our clients’ key suppliers to ensure that we provide the most innovative and up to date technology.
“Our innovation in renewable power is opening up the potential for significant new business and will add to our overall success within the water industry.”
