Northumbrian Water to spend £3.15m to protect 26 properties from flooding

Northumbrian Water is starting work on two separate flood defence schemes in Westerhope, Newcastle at a combined cost of £3.15 million to protect a total of 26 homes from flooding.

The water company is spending £1.75 million on a flood scheme at Stamfordham Road in Newcastle on an eight-month programme of work to reduce the risk of flooding to 13 properties. The scheme includes a new storm water storage tank which will hold up to two and a half million litres of waste water during times of heavy rainfall and 120 metres of new sewer pipe.

In nearby Baybridge Road work is also starting on a separate £1.4 million scheme which will take up to six months to complete to help protect 13 homes from flooding. A stormwater storage tank, which will hold up to 225,000 litres of storm water in times of heavy rainfall, together with more than one kilometre of new sewer pipe form part of the scheme.

Northumbrian Water contractors Seymour Civil Engineering will be carrying out the work.
