A major government-funded programme to tackle water efficiency across Cambridgeshire has confirmed funding for projects aimed at helping businesses reduce their water use.
The £1.6 million Water Efficiency Cambridgeshire Fund (weCB Fund) has approved bids from Business Stream, one of the UK's leading water retailers, to deliver practical water-saving projects and innovative efficiency solutions for businesses and public sector organisations in an area facing increasing pressure on its water resources.
With the initiative aiming to help save up to three megalitres of water a day by 2032, Business Stream's successful bids will fund two separate projects.
The first will focus on water stewardship, helping businesses across the region better understand how to manage their water more efficiently and sustainably. The second will support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to identify water-saving opportunities and implement water-saving devices, helping them reduce consumption and lower costs.

“Water efficiency is a growing priority for businesses and public bodies across the country and this funding will enable us to work directly with customers in the Cambridgeshire region to help them understand their water use, identify practical savings and put the right solutions in place. As water scarcity becomes an increasing challenge across parts of the UK, funds such as this one are vital to supporting measures that will help us address this issue”.

“The weCB Fund Team is delighted to be working with Business Stream as part of a cohort of successful applicants for our first round of funding. Between them, the cohort is aiming to save an estimated 628,000 litres of water per day in Cambridgeshire by March 2027.
“Once contracts are finalised, they will kick off a whole range of water saving projects within three months. We want to thank Business Stream and all successful applicants for applying to the weCB Fund- we can’t wait to get started on unlocking Cambridgeshire’s growth potential through water saving.”
The projects form part of Business Stream's wider commitment to supporting its customers to reduce water use and meet sustainability targets – with the company helping its customers save over 7.9billion litres of water since 2020.
