Thames Water supersewer battle continues

Thames Water's plans for the controversial super sewer came under fire again last week at a meeting in Fulham from highly vocal local opposition.

The positive downward trend in E.coli in Ireland's drinking water in recent years continued in 2010, according to a new report released by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Thames Water has been ordered to pay £61,049 after devastating the aquatic life in two rural brooks in Hampshire and Berkshire killing between 7,500 and 22,000 fish.

A £75 million boost for high tech small and medium sized businesses is part of a package of measures announced in the Government’s new Innovation and Research Strategy for Growth.

Cautious welcome for Water White Paper

Today’s publication of the Government’s Water White Paper has generated a wide range of initial comments – some welcoming the overall approach, while others have expressed concern about its implications.

Thames Water will be looking for bids from contractors as far afield as China or Singapore when the Thames Tunnel project is put out to tender.

UK water industry regulator Ofwat has published a detailed review of the evidence base for retail competition and separation ahead of the Government’s imminently-expected Water White Paper.

In its latest trading update, Carillion plc, one of the UK’s leading support services companies, said it is expecting underlying profit before tax and underlying earnings per share to increase strongly in line with market expectations.

BAM Construction has been appointed as preferred bidder to build a £15 million National Operations Centre for Scottish Water.
