United Utilities is seeking supply chain input on its plans to install new Gas to Grid upgrading plant with a Biomethane / CO2 carbon capture (liquified) that takes all the on-site generated gas (~ 6000nm3/hr) from its existing anaerobic digestion storage for export into the gas network.

As part of developing its future strategy the water company is undertaking pre-market research to understand market offerings for a wide range of services and equipment. Initial design for the main plant items includes:
- Dual stream 'Amine solution' Chemical wash plant
- Grid Export Unit (GEU) – kiosk based solution
- Remote Operating Valve (ROV) assembly – kiosk based solution
- CO2 capture / recovery Plant (off- gas product of the Chemical Wash Plant)
- Propane storage facility
- Dual fuel boiler (H2 and natural gas)
- H2 import pipeline to dual fuel boilers
- New electrical feed
United Utilities are interested in understanding how the model can be delivered and the best technical solution - responses detailing variations of the outline design are welcome. Current estimated total value is £30 million.
The water company has issued a Periodic Indicative Notice - at this stage the notice is a request for information only. Deadline for companies with experience in this area to respond is 22 September 2023.
