Business Stream wins top Edinburgh school contract

Fettes College has signed up to a new water supply and wastewater services contract with water retailer Business Stream.

The independent school in Edinburgh, which has worked with Business Stream since the water market opened in 2008, has agreed a new three-year extension with Scotland’s biggest supplier.

The new agreement includes the consolidation of all water meters on the school’s estate and the introduction of automated meter readers to help track water use. The school will also continue to benefit from the water expert’s dedicated account management service, providing day-to-day support and 24/7 emergency assistance, if required.

Peter Worlledge, bursar, Fettes College, said:

“We have always valued the level of expertise and support provided by Business Stream. We are looking forward to maintaining our partnership with the retailer over the next three years, as we look to generate further environmental efficiencies.”

James Cardwell-Moore, commercial director at Business Stream, said:

“We are delighted that Fettes College has chosen to renew its partnership with us. We always strive to deliver a seamless customer experience and to retain one of the UK’s leading schools, Fettes College, for over a decade is an encouraging indicator that we are serving our customers well.”

Business Stream expanded its operation in April 2016 when it began competing in the new £2.5bn English water market. The largest operator in the Scottish non-domestic water market, its most recent profit before tax was £21.8 million from revenue of £281 million.

The wholly-owned subsidiary of Scottish Water acquired the non-household customer base of Southern Water in preparation for the English retail water market, which opened in April 2017. The acquisition doubled Business Stream’s customer base overnight, making it one of the largest retail water suppliers in the UK.
