Costain, one of the UK's leading construction and engineering solutions providers, has announced this morning that it has been instructed to undertake two major water contract extensions.
The company has won a further extension to its AMP5 contract with Severn Trent Water worth around £45million.
Working in partnership with Severn Trent and other non-infrastructure contractors, a programme of major schemes to a value of £187million has been agreed and will include the provision of wastewater schemes for Costain to design and build.
As part of the Costain, Galliford Try and Atkins joint venture, Costain will work on the £200 million upgrade and extension of Sandon Dock sewage treatment works in Liverpool.
The scheme involves extending the current treatment works into the adjacent dock along with major upgrade works to the existing plant - all of which will improve the quality of the final effluent in line with discharge consents set by the Environment Agency.
Commenting on the contract awards, Andrew Wyllie, Chief Executive of Costain, said:
“We are delighted to have secured these two contracts, which demonstrate the UK water industry’s continued investment in infrastructure, and help us build on our market leading position in the water sector.”
Yesterday Costain’s Geotechnical Services Division* (GSD) announced that it has been awarded one of five places on the National Site Investigation Framework (NSIF3) for the Environment Agency (EA). The duration of NSIF3 is a period of 4 years commencing on 4 April 2011, with an estimated value of £5 million.
The rigorous procurement process used by the EA to award the framework means the contract award has the potential to provide Costain GSD with other opportunities outside the EA, such as the Highways Agency and other Government bodies, including local councils.
