The company has increased its score in the Water and Sewerage sector for the third year in a row achieving a GRESB five star rating placing it in the top 20 per cent of the benchmark.

Established in 2009, GRESB has become the leading Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) benchmark for real estate and infrastructure investments across the world.

Its data is used by more than 100 institutional and financial investors with 1,200 real estate portfolios reporting to GRESB covering more than 96,000 assets.

The GRESB Sector Leader Awards Programme recognises world-wide real estate and infrastructure companies, funds and assets that have demonstrated outstanding leadership in sustainability.

All GRESB ratings are based on the GRESB Score and the quintile position an organisation occupies relative to all companies participating in the GRESB Assessment.

South East Water has made a lasting commitment to building a responsible business reflecting the inbuilt culture of the business which has included:

  • Developing 10 additional responsible business commitments as part of its business plan in 2018
  • Creating a dedicated Responsible Business Board Committee in 2019
  • Working with others in the water industry to develop the Water UK Public Interest Commitments.

“Making sure we are doing the right thing for the environment and society is the heart of our purpose at South East Water.

“We know this matters to our customers, communities and employees so we are delighted that our efforts to keep improving our performance in these issues has made such great strides. We have our eyes firmly on the future too so we can ensure the next generation and the environment can thrive.”
