Held in London at the Grosvenor Hotel on 13 October the Digital Initiative of the Year category recognises projects that are driving the use of digital technologies in construction to improve delivery and create more successful outcomes.

The SPA project is the water company’s multi-million-pound investment to create hundreds of kilometres of new, interconnecting water pipelines across the East of England.

When complete, the new pipelines will allow transmission of water from ‘wetter’ parts of north Lincolnshire to drier areas in the south and east of the region, in total creating up to 500km of new water mains. It will be one of the biggest water infrastructure projects for a generation.

Anglian Water’s submission entitled Strategic Pipeline Alliance: Geospatial Digital Solution (GIS) - highlights how SPA is using the Project 13 principles to deliver outcomes rather than a prescribed infrastructure solution. Project 13 builds on five core principles that shifts infrastructure delivery from a transactional to an enterprise delivery model. GIS is a core component in Enterprise Architecture and the Digital Twin.

James Crompton, Director of SPA said:

"We are delighted to have been recognised at the BCIA this week. The team have put real innovative thinking into this project, and we are seeing great outcomes already. We are trying to do things differently from a standard construction approach and this award is testament to the hard work, dedication, and creative talent of our people. The team and everyone involved in the SPA project are immensely proud of this achievement.”

In addition to the innovative construction technology and planning that is being used the entire pipeline has also been designed to have the lowest carbon footprint possible in line with Anglian’s pledge to reach net zero carbon by 2030.
