Welsh Water is set to invest £1.1 million to upgrade the water network in Holyhead - work to replace nearly 4km of water main will start on the 9th of May.
The majority of the work, which will take around 20 weeks to be completed, will mainly be carried out in fields.
Jim Grundy, North West Distribution Manager for Welsh Water said:
“We have had some bursts in the past on the water main in the area which on occasions has unfortunately affected the nearby allotments. As a result we are investing over £1 million in the main which will improve the reliability of the network and ensure customers continue to receive a high quality supply of water.”
“The location of the main is quite challenging and will mean that we will use three different techniques to replace it. Using these techniques will not only make sure that disruption will be kept to a minimum but also allow us to work in very hard and rocky ground near the reservoir on Holyhead mountain.”
One of the techniques includes slip lining, where the new main is inserted into the old one.
The work at Holyhead will be carried out by Welsh Water’s contractors Morrison Utility.
