Scottish Water issues "Don’t Drink, Don’t Cook" notice

Scottish Water has issued a “Don’t Drink, Don’t Cook” notice to residents in  Aultbea and the surrounding villages of Mellon Charles, Laide, First Coast, Second Coast, Achgarve, Mellon Udrigle and Opian.

A recent water quality sample was narrowly outside the regulatory requirements for drinking water quality. The water can still be used to flush the toilet or for washing.

Following discussion with NHS Highland, the water company said it was issuing the notice as a precautionary measure, describing it as the correct step to take.

Scottish Water has apologised to local residents and businesses , saying measures are being taken to ensure there are alternative water supplies to customers.

Extra resources are now being brought into the area to assist with bottled water and leaflet deliveries. Scottish Water currently has 10 bottled water drop locations in place.

The water company is taking measures to return the water quality to its normal high standard and posting regular updates for customers on its website and other social media channels.
