Scottish Water International completes major Canadian contract

Scottish Water International has completed a major assignment in the Western Canadian City of Calgary.

A team of project consultants from the Dunfermline-based public utility, backed by other specialist staff, identified efficiency benefits for the City of Calgary’s Water Services business unit.

This followed a 12-month review of Calgary’s water-related operational activities, drawing on the Scottish Water team’s expertise in operations and maintenance, service delivery, benchmarking, project and change management.

Dan Limacher, Director of Water Services, of The City of Calgary said:

“The service review experience with Scottish Water was a great opportunity for our utility to leverage Scottish Water’s expertise and customer-driven perspective. Their ideas and recommendations throughout the review will support our efforts to better focus and shape our continuous improvement initiatives, and will ensure that our customers get the best value for the services we provide.”

Via a high-level analysis of the operational activities, the consultants identified more than 30 opportunities in business cases for Calgary to consider with a focus on customer service. The options could create up to $5M in avoided costs for the Calgary water business.

Principal Consultant John Carty, who led the team in Calgary, said:

“This was the first major assignment that SW International had won on its own. It was a great opportunity to promote Scottish Water on the world stage. The lessons that we have learned in Scotland with the evolution of Scottish Water are very useful now for our international clients.

“The team came up with over 30 recommendations. Many of these recommendations are also scalable across other areas of their Water Services unit, meaning that the benefits are likely to be even greater. We have a very satisfied client and it was a great experience for everyone concerned.”

Nigel Ayton, Managing Director of Scottish Water International, added:

“The successful delivery of the Calgary contract is a clear demonstration of how, using the skills and expertise of Scottish Water employees and our experience of transforming the delivery of water services in Scotland, we can export those services and help international clients raise standards and reduce costs.

“Elsewhere, we are continuing our work in Qatar as part of a five-year drainage improvement project, which will enhance waste water treatment and collection systems across Qatar, and pursuing new opportunities and openings.”
