South East Water starts work on water mains upgrade

South East Water is starting the New Year with two more water main upgrades.

Essential work to upgrade an old leaking water main in West Malling is due to get underway later this month - the 920 metre long section of pipeline has burst five times over the past five years.

Chris Love, Delivery Manager at South East Water, said:

“Upgrading failing pipelines such as this is essential to ensure our customers in West Malling continue to have an uninterrupted water supply 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

“This new £160,000 pipeline forms part of our five year programme in which we are investing £390 million to ensure clean, safe water is delivered to all our customers.”

Construction is due to start on 12 January and complete by the end of May.

Work is also set to get underway later this month on the installation of a new 290 metre long water main near Sheldwich. The majority of South East Water’s new pipeline will be laid in private land next to the A251 near Sheldwich to reduce disruption to motorists.

The new pipeline will support the network by pumping more water into existing water mains in the Sheldwich area and link up with the water main the water company installed in the area during 2013.

Construction will start on 12 January and is due for completion by the end of March.
