Water Resources North (WReN) has published its Draft Regional Water Resources Plan for the North of England and is inviting interested stakeholders to submit comments on its proposals.

The Plan incorporates updates undertaken following the publication of Emerging Plan earlier this year including using the responses we received from a range of stakeholder to help shape in the development.
The draft plan provides information of the region’s water needs; reflecting growth, climate change and environmental destination and outlines the draft best value plan.
Key drivers of the plan include:
- increasing drought resilience
- improving sustainability for the environment
- reducing long-term water usage and leakage
- cutting down on drought permits and orders, and
- increasing supplies.
The three core water companies involved with WReN are Hartlepool Water, Northumbrian Water and Yorkshire Water. Other members include regional Environment Agency representatives and stakeholders from the energy, agriculture, environment, and industry sectors
WreN is seeking feedback from customers, stakeholders and regulators on the draft regional plan and will use this to further shape the final regional plan which will be reflected into the water companies’ final WRMP24s in autumn 2023.
In addition to the draft WReN Plan, Yorkshire Water and Northumbrian Water have also published their draft WRMP24s for consultation, aligned with the overall Regional Plan.
WReN is hosting a webinar on Wednesday 7 December 2022 from 10.00am until 11.30am – click here to register.
Deadline for feedback on the draft plan is Friday 24 February 2023. To submit comments on the draft Regional Plan consultation, email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
