The United Nations has released the first comprehensive draft of the agreement for the international UN Climate Change Conference taking place in Paris in December.
At 20 pages ( less than a quarter of the length of the previous 89-page document negotiators have been working with, the new shortened version of the text contains the basis for negotiation of the draft Paris climate package. In addition to the agreement, the package contains a draft of the decision that will operationalize the agreement from 2020 and a draft decision on pre-2020 ambition.
It also suggests the mobilization of climate finance should be scaled up from $100 billion per year from 2020.
In the build up to the COP21 meeting in December member states have been submitting climate action plans known as Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs).
Negotiators will continue to work on finalising the text before the Paris conference ends on 11 December.
