The House Of Commons Environmental Audit Committee will hold another public evidence session this week as part of its ongoing Climate Change Adaption inquiry launched in July 2014.
The Select Committee is currently examining the impacts of climate change for ‘networks’—roads, railways, energy supplies, etc—including for businesses that rely on the networks, as well as the adaptation challenges for making networks more resilient.
The Committee is examining the progress on preparations in England for adapting to the impact of climate change. This follows and takes forward the publication on 9 July 2014 by the Adaptation Sub-Committee of the Committee on Climate Change of its latest progress report ‘Managing climate risks to well-being and the economy’. The Adaptation Sub-Committee reports on the delivery of the Government’s July 2013 National Adaptation Programme (NAP), which set out the actions to be taken by Government, business and society to become more climate ready.
Witnesses who will appear before the Committee are as follows:
- Tony Glover, Director of Policy, Energy Networks Association
- Professor Jim Hall, Director of the Environmental Change Institute, Oxford University, and Director of the Infrastructure Transitions Research Consortium
- Allen Creedy, Chair, Energy, Water & Environment Policy Unit, Federation of Small Businesses
- John Dora, Chair, Infrastructure Operators’ Adaptation Forum
- Brian Smith, Member of expert panel on Review of the Resilience of the Transport Network to Extreme Weather Events.
