The deadline is approaching to submit applications for the Global Prize for Innovation in Water 2025 – closing date for applications is 14 September 2025.

Now in its third year, the Global Prize for Innovation in Water (GPIW) was launched in 2023 as an initiative by the Saudi Water Authority, reaffirming the Kingdom's pioneering role in promoting research, fostering innovation, and adopting new breakthroughs in the water sector.
2023 marked the launch of the first edition of the Global Prize for Innovation in Desalination, with the participation of distinguished global innovators.
In 2024, the prize expanded its reach by attracting numerous universities and research institutes that submitted their contributions and innovations to help shape the future of water.
Beyond monetary Prizes, GPIW awardees will have the chance to gain entry into an accelerator program and access to piloting facilities provided by SWA and other partners, amplifying the impact of their innovations.
The prize, which attracts leading global universities, specialized research institutes, and innovators in the water sector, aims to support pioneers from around the globe.
The GPIW process follows a series of stages, starting with application submission, followed by scientific and technical evaluation, then winner selection, and concluding with the support and implementation of the innovation on the ground.
Program Timeline for the GWIP is as follows:

Beyond monetary Prizes, GPIW awardees will have the chance to gain entry into an accelerator program and access to piloting facilities provided by SWA and other partners, amplifying the impact of their innovations.
The GPIW will award a total of 12 prizes across 6 categories in two TRL clusters (TRL 1-3 & TRL 4-7), including 2 Grand Prizes and 10 Impact Medals. Each Grand Prize is valued at $100,000, while each Impact Medal is valued at $50,000.
The Saudi Water Authority is a government entity responsible for all aspects of the water ecosystem in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It oversees regulatory and supervisory functions, in addition to providing strategic support for the sector.
The Authority is a global leader in water sustainability, with numerous international achievements, including being the world’s largest producer of desalinated water. Through its operational arm, 'Desalination' , it manages 30 desalination plants and oversees six mega-projects currently under development, serving more than 34 million people in the Kingdom’s rapidly growing economy.
