Yorkshire Water has commissioned Stantec to configure and implement its Flood Alarm Tool to process real time data from a total of 4000 monitor locations together with now-cast radar rainfall data across urban areas in West Yorkshire.
The commission is part of Yorkshire Water’s proactive flood alarm pilot programme and will involve Stantec’s digital team configuring Stantec Insight Analytics (SIA) to process data being returned from sewer level monitors and property flood alarms.

Stantec has also supported deployment of the flood alarms by using machine learning and geo-spatial analytics to select the best locations for flood alarm installation.
Stantec UK’s head of digital innovation, Joanna Kelsey said:
“We will configure SIA to test and develop analytical approaches that will enable proactive detection of sewer blockages, supporting Yorkshire Water in achieving a target 47% reduction in internal sewer flooding incidents. The pilot programme will significantly expand visibility of the sewerage network and enable a more proactive approach to preventing incidents and engaging with customers.”
Stantec UK’s operations director, Ben Clark commented:
“I’m delighted that Stantec has secured this important pilot project which will clearly demonstrate the benefits of smart analysis of network data. This is a fantastic example of how we can apply new and innovative ways of using data to help meet the AMP7 challenges and deliver great outcomes for Yorkshire Water’s customers and communities.”
Stantec Insight Analytics is both a platform and a suite of business intelligence applications. Either, Microsoft Azure cloud-based or installed on-premise, SIA provides data-driven insights for improving utility performance by processing and analysing real time asset and environmental data.
The suite of analytics includes asset telemetry alarm verification and diagnosis, energy optimisation and overflow/sewer flooding prevention services.
