The third in the Water Innovation Cross-Sector Challenge series of webinars which takes place tomorrow from 10-11:30am will explore how cross-sector collaboration can reduce pollution at source.

In partnership with Innovate UK, the Water Innovation Cross-Sector Challenge is a £40 million programme within Ofwat’s Water Innovation Fund
The webinar will explore how emerging contaminants (including pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals, PFAS, microplastics and runoff-related pollutants) are placing increasing pressures as they move through the water environment.
At the same time, evolving regulatory expectations and growing public concern are creating new incentives for upstream action, not just end-of-pipe treatment.
Drawing on future regulatory signals (including developments such as the revised Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive in Europe), this session brings together water companies, regulators, innovators, manufacturers, highways authorities, healthcare organisations and other adjacent sectors to understand:
- How contaminants are entering the water system across diverse pathways
- What innovation is already happening in different industries
- What future expectations and monitoring capabilities mean for industry risk
- What this means for future regulation, risk and industry practice
- How collaboration with water companies can unlock shared value
- How new Ofwat/Innovate UK funding can support cross-sector solutions
Designed to be constructive and forward-looking, the session will highlight real examples, emerging technologies, and opportunities for partnership - helping industries future-proof operations and helping the water sector shape a more joined-up response to emerging contaminants.
