A public exhibition of the company's major project to alleviate sewer flooding will take place at the town's Belsfield Hotel, with engineers and project staff on hand from 5pm until 7.30pm to answer questions. The work is due to start in the autumn and will take around 18 months.
United Utilities' project will vastly reduce the risk of flooding from sewer pipes where flooding sometimes happens during heavy storms - the current system cannot cope with the rainwater which swells the volume inside the pipes to more than four times the usual flow.
Engineers want to install extra pumps, improved screening equipment and a new pipe underneath The Glebe so that the very dilute storm water can overflow harmlessly into the centre of the lake instead of onto the road.
United Utilities project manager Roger Woodcock urged people to come and see the plans.
"People in Windermere have told us that stopping sewer flooding is a top priority for them so we're glad to be able to start work so soon.
"When we have finished, the vast majority of our project will be buried underground out of sight. The only thing visible will be our control building and an access area which will be designed as an attractive addition to the built environment of The Glebe, using natural materials.
"We would really like to know what people think of our designs which have been drawn up by our architects based on examples provided by Lake District planners."
The company is also carrying out a long term study of its sewer network around the entire lake to see where future investment could improve sewer performance and reduce overflows. The study is one part of a jigsaw of activities, which also includes organisations such as the Environment Agency and lake restoration groups, to improve water quality in Windermere.
