Northumbrian Water tenders £300m AMP6/AMP7 construction contract

Northumbrian Water has gone out to tender with an AMP6/ AMP7 water and waste-water infrastructure construction contract worth up to £300 million over ten years.

The water company is looking to appoint a maximum of two suppliers to the framework agreement, which will run for up to ten years across AMP6 and AMP7 and is worth between £200 million to £300 million. Northumbrian Water is estimating a spend of approximately £20 million to £30 million per annum over a 10 year duration. The firm said the range is reflective of variable demand associated with the framework as weather and other mitigating factors can impact on the volumes of work under each work stream.

The initial contract period, which will start in October 2015, is 5 years with the option to extend by a further 5 years.

Work under the contract includes the design, construction and commissioning of capital works associated with:

  • Water and waste-water networks planned maintenance. This covers small scale planned maintenance and investigation works, this provides the base workload for the framework.
  • Property Level Flood Mitigation Measures on domestic and commercial properties. This covers a range of interventions from installation of flood doors to landscape re-profiling. All works involve a high level of customer engagement.
  • Water and waste-water network planned reactive projects. This covers reactive works which are initiated by 3rd party requests such as diversions, or are required in the medium term in response to rainfall events.
  • Water and waste-water network proactive projects. This includes small scale proactive projects to reduce the risk of sewer flooding.
  • Water and waste-water network large projects This covers a small number of larger value schemes (£2m to £5m) to be let during each AMP period.

The works are predominately on the waste-water network but also include work to strategic water mains.

Time limit for receipt of requests for documents or for accessing documents is 28th November. Click here to access the tender documentation.
