RSE awarded multi-billion-pound contract to transform Scotland’s water and waste water infrastructure

Clean water technology firm RSE will carry out a major infrastructure project transforming assets for long-term sustainability and durability, Scottish Water has confirmed.

The Muir-of-Ord based company was initially selected as one of seven preferred bidders to deliver the multi-billion-pound contract, and it has now been awarded the ambitious project.

The Scottish Water Enterprise will be one of the most ambitious investment programmes ever undertaken by Scottish Water and will enhance both water and wastewater infrastructure between 2027 and 2033 – with the potential to extend for another six years.

RSE, recognised for its innovative and industry-leading modular solutions, was among multiple other firms invited to bid in the procurement process and stands to be instrumental as an Asset Delivery Partner for the Enterprise.

Established in 1982, RSE has grown into one of the leading MEICA contractors and specialist engineering businesses in the UK water industry. It has created an in-house full-service capability from project inception through to design, fabrication and delivery by means of installation and commissioning.

Work on the transformational project will begin in April 2027.

Martin Mathers, chief operating officer of RSE, said:

“RSE is proud to have the opportunity to deliver this significant project that will deliver vital upgrades to Scotland’s water and wastewater systems. This will ensure that our infrastructure is fit for purpose to meet the challenges of the 21st century, such as water scarcity, population growth and increasing energy usage.

“The Enterprise will ensure Scotland has the modern infrastructure needed to support our water systems, while protecting sustainable usage and the environment.”

RSE will partner with others to complete the major transformations, including:

  • Stantec as a Primary Designer
  • Aecom as a Primary Designer
  • M Group Water as an Asset Delivery Partner
  • Mott MacDonald Bentley as an Asset Delivery Partner
  • Farrans Construction as an Asset Delivery Partner
  • WGM Engineering as an Asset Delivery Partner

Rob Mustard, Director of Capital Investment at Scottish Water, commented:

“The Enterprise is part of the most significant programme of investment and way of working we have ever implemented. It supports our goals of financial sustainability, service excellence, and going beyond net zero, all while contributing to a flourishing Scotland."
