Yorkshire Water has extended its strategic planning partnership with Stantec into AMP8 – the company will ontinue to support the utility as a Strategic Planning Partner (SPP) throughout the AMP8 period 2025-30 investment period.
Following a comprehensive review of the successful relationship built on innovation, a track record for delivery and trust, the water company chose to extend its existing strategic planning partnership with Stantec for five more years.
Richard Stuart, director of asset delivery at Yorkshire Water, added:
”We’re hitting the ground running for AMP8 by continuing this partnership, which has delivered a range of industry-leading projects over the last seven years. It’s a challenging time for the water industry, and working with Stantec will greatly help us in achieving our ambitions as we progress our business plans.”
Yorkshire Water provides water and wastewater services to more than 5.7 million people across every corner of Yorkshire, operating 670 water and treatment works and managing over 72,000 acres of reservoirs and countryside.
Over the last seven years, Stantec’s teams have worked closely with Yorkshire Water in what was the first strategic planning design partnership of its kind. Throughout this time, Stantec has delivered award-winning projects and innovative programmes that have helped Yorkshire Water significantly reduce its carbon emissions and financial costs, as well as increase efficiency across its entire operations.

One stand-out project produced as a result of the partnership is the integrated constructed wetland at Clifton Wastewater Treatment Works.
This industry-recognised, nature-based solution makes use of 24,000 wetland plants and interconnected ponds that stimulate wildlife diversity and deliver operational carbon savings.
Stantec also helped design Hough Side Wastewater Treatment Works – the first integrated wetland in England to use non-groundwater storm treatment. It is estimated that throughout the last seven years, Stantec’s teams have helped secure around £200 million worth of efficiency for Yorkshire Water.
In 2023, during a period of sustained business growth in the water sector, Stantec invested in a new state-of-the-art office space in the centre of Leeds. The firm is now in the midst of its biggest UK and Ireland recruitment drive as it prepares to support its clients’ aspirational business plans throughout the AMP8 period.
Ben Clark, Stantec’s UK regional director for the North commented:
“Stantec and Yorkshire Water have enjoyed years of success, and the extension of this incredibly successful partnership will see us create many new purpose-led, highly skilled jobs across a variety of design and engineering disciplines.
“Looking towards 2030, this is the most important time in the UK water sector’s history. Innovation, efficiency and sustainability are going to be the three key factors our clients are going to rely on from suppliers throughout AMP8. We’re so proud of our relationship with Yorkshire Water, and our teams are excited to work on projects that will have a direct, positive, and long-lasting impact on their local areas.”
Stantec’s extension follows a number of successful AMP8 framework bids.
