Southern Water has gone out to tender with a major AMP7 framework contract for General Mechanical and Electrical Services worth an estimated £149.04 million.

The water company is looking to put a framework in place for multiple suppliers to provide General Mechanical and Electrical Services (GMES), including Specialist Access, EAWR and lighting protection services, storage tanks and glass reinforced plastic (GRP) structures, fabrications and welding, supply, hire and maintenance of inverter drives and soft starts.
The contract is being tendered in separate Lots :
- Lot 1 Mechanical Services - planned and reactive mechanical engineering services
- Lot 2 Specialist Access services - including confined space / rescue, working at height, rope access, diving access and zoned areas.
- Lot 3 Electrical Services - repair and maintenance services of electrical machinery, apparatus and
- Lot 4 EAWR - Periodic Inspection and Testing (PIT) for fixed electrical installations and Class 3 and 4 for lightning protection, including DSEAR and zoned areas, and Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) for all portable equipment
- Lot 5 Lightning Protection - covers the testing of all lightning protection. Class 1 and 2 Lightning protection installed on high-risk assets require inspection and testing carried out every 11 months
- Lot 6 Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) - covers supply, maintenance and install for GRP tanks and fabrications required in order to operate wastewater, water and sewerage assets
- Lot 7 Fabrications & Welding
- Lot 8 Hire of Inverter Drives & Soft Starts
- Lot 9 Repair, Maintenance and supply of replacement Inverter drives & Soft Starts - covers provision of legacy parts and equipment, repair works, maintenance and new installations on Inverter Drives, Soft Start and VSD control panels in order to operate wastewater, water and sewerage assets
Southern Water is looking to appoint up to 25 suppliers to the framework - initial contract term is four years with further extension options available.
