Somerset County Council has gone out to tender with a contract for energy and water purchasing and associated support services worth up to an estimated £64 million in total.

The Local Authority is seeking a professional buying organisation or trading organisation to:
- carry out energy trading
- provide contract and market options (fixed, flexible options and alternative contract durations)
- provide advice on the trading and purchasing strategies available and their application/ suitability to the Authority’s portfolio with the aim of achieving best value and mitigating risk to the Authority.
The scope of the contract includes:
- trading and purchasing of utilities
- administration and support services
- provision of systems to enable the smooth operation of the contract
The commodities include:
- Electricity: Non- Half Hourly, Half Hourly and UMS
- Gas
- Water
The scope may include schools and will include the option for schools, charity and voluntary sector organisations to join the contract.
The initial contract term is four years with two further 24 months extension options – anticipated start date is 9th February 2022.
