Portsmouth Water has awarded the Principal Designer contract, worth up to £14 million in total, for the design of its £106 million flagship Havant Thicket Winter Storage Reservoir Project to Atkins Ltd.
Construction work is anticipated to start in 2024 on the winter storage reservoir at Havant Thicket, the first new strategic water resource in the South East for decades, for completion by 2029. The project is the product of collaborative regional water planning and forms a key step in increasing water resilience in the South East.
The Principal Designer contract is in 2 parts - Phase One (outline design) and Phase Two (detailed design).
Scope of work covered under the contract includes:
- health and safety and CDM;
- engineering and architectural design;
- procurement support;
- site investigation scoping, interpretation and reporting;
- environmental impact assessment;
- planning advice and consultancy;
- supervisor services.
Atkins Ltd, one of five firms in the bidding for the design contract, is a member of the Canadian-headquartered SNC-Lavalin Group, which acquired Atkins in July 2017.
Details of the award of the framework agreement for wider design services for the Havant Thicket reservoir, which was procured alongside the Principle Designer contract, will be set out separately.
