Atkins has been appointed by Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water to provide consultancy services to help maintain a safe and reliable drinking water supply for 1.4m homes and businesses across Wales and parts of western England.
The £3 million framework contract, which runs from July 2016 until 2019, will see Atkins deliver an array of technical services to support Welsh Water’s clean water network serving some three million people.
The work will identify specific areas of the system which need renovating and require investment, and will involve the construction of hydraulic models to simulate how the water supply system will respond under various operational scenarios.
Services being provided by Atkins under the framework include:
- modelling and identification of water service related performance improvement requirements;
- the development of traditional and innovative asset and operational based solutions;
- feasibility studies;
- investment appraisals;
- and the design and development of solutions.

Atkins is working on three other frameworks for Welsh Water: a water resources framework, asset management framework, and a strategic drainage framework.
