The City of Edinburgh Council has awarded the contract for Phase 2 of the £14 million Water of Leith flood defence scheme.
Mclaughlin and Harvey Ltd, have been as contractors for Phase 2 of the programme which consists of the construction of flood defences over a distance of 1 km along the Water of Leith at Murrayfield in Edinburgh City Centre.
The works will include structural walls and earth embankments, approximately 1 300 m and 600 m respectively with associated flood gates and provision of pump stations to assist with drainage on the dry side of the wall.
The works also involve the demolition and removal of 4 bridges and the provision of 2 new bridges over the river.
Mclaughlin and Harvey Ltd, which has its main offices in Ayrshire and Northern Ireland, were one of three companies in the bidding for the contract, which has an estimated total value of £14,031,000.
