VolkerStevin worked with the client and designers under the EA’s Collaborative Delivery Framework to provide Early Contractor Involvement advice, assisting in getting the key project for the South East Integrated Delivery Team to ground.

The scheme will raise and strengthen the existing flood embankments between Scots Float and Rye Harbour on the eastern bank of the River Rother. A flood wall will also be built between the railway bridge and A259 road bridge.

Work will also include enhancements to allow natural processes to continue by setting back the existing line of the defences at Camberfields in the centre of Rye, to create 4 hectares of additional intertidal habitat.

Mark Cronshaw, Framework Director for VolkerStevin said:

“We are delighted to be working on this vital flood defence scheme with the Environment Agency. It has taken a truly collaborative approach by all parties to get this project into contract and under way. The improved defences will mean more properties and the community will be better protected from the devastating impacts of flooding for many years to come.”
