Welsh Water consults on draft Drought Plan 2014

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water has launched a public consultation on its draft Drought Plan 2014.

The plan summarises how Welsh Water intend to maintain water supplies, in times of drought, to the firm’s 1.2million domestic and 110,000 business customers in Wales, Herefordshire and parts of Cheshire.

The plan outlines Welsh Water’s proposals  to implement new drought powers known as temporary use bans when required and how it will communicate to customers prior to, during and following a drought period.

It also sets out how the utility will report mitigation measures for  any impact that the proposed drought schemes might have on the environment. The Drought Plan has been prepared in accordance with the relevant legislative requirements including the Habitats and SEA Directives.

All water companies in England Wales are required to publish a draft drought plan and carry out a public consultation on the plan.

Deadline to sumbit responses to the Welsh Water Drought Plan consultation is 31st October 2014.
