South East Water has reached a milestone in the company’s compulsory metering programme with the installation of the 100,000th water meter in the Customer Metering Programme.
The firm’s compulsory metering programme has been installing meters since summer 2011 to create a fairer way of paying and to help manage the future of water resources across the south east.
Reaching this stage puts the water company a third of the way through the programme - the next phase will see the installation of a further 23,000 meters over two years.
Charles Healey, Metering Manager for South East Water, said:
"We are right on schedule with the metering programme and this means that the south east is now a significant step closer to becoming more water efficient. These water meters will create a fairer way of paying for all our customers.
"The South East is an area of serious water stress, this can sometimes be a little hard to believe particularly with the recent rainfall we have experienced, however, installing these water meters now is important and will help us to manage our water resources into the future.”
South East Water is aiming to complete the programme by 2019 by which point at least 90% of its customers will have a water meter installed.
