According to a report on the BBC news website last night, the Environment Agency has told Thames Water to revise "substantial parts" of its plans for a new reservoir in Oxfordshire.
The BBC said that the Environment Agency is calling on Thames to do more to demonstrate the need for the site, which could lead to some local people being forced to sell their homes under compulsory purchase powers. People living between the villages of East Hanney and Steventon would be most affected by the reservoir.
The Environment Agency report stated:
"The draft plan is not aligned with some important elements of government and Environment Agency policies and objectives surrounding metering, leakage and consumption of water."
According to the BBC, Thames Water has declined to comment on the report. .
