£1.5m Scottish Water project to benefit River Tyne

The River Tyne will benefit from a significant Scottish Water investment at the Haddington waste water treatment works.

The £1.5 million programme of work will update facilities at the works, helping to protect the natural environment of the river as it flows from the Moorfoot Hills, on past Sandy’s Mill and Hailes Castle to the North Sea at East Lothian.

Mark Keast, Solutions Senior Construction Manager, said:

“This is a significant investment which will deliver tangible benefits to local community for many years to come. Our improvement programme will help to protect the natural environment of the River Tyne. Improvements to the treatment facilities, screens and refurbishments to storage tanks will all help to protect the natural environment.”

The investment will also help to protect the natural habitat of the Tyne which is home to a number of species from water voles to otters and sticklebacks, brown trout and the occasional sea trout.
