United Utilities’ Enterprise has agreed a single supplier for a key piece of technology needed to treat wastewater at some of its largest sites.

United Utilities’ Enterprise is a single, integrated delivery team bringing together United Utilities and seven design and construction partners through a collaborative, incentivised framework. The partners include C2V, Costain, Jacobs, Murphy, Kier Group, Mott MacDonald Bentley, and MWH Treatment.
Following a competitive tender process, DuPont has been selected as the preferred supplier for Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology - a high-performance filtration system used in wastewater treatment to produce cleaner water more consistently and increase capacity where it’s needed.
The technology will be used at multiple wastewater treatment works across the North West, including Eccles, Salford and Wigan. The treatment works in Wigan is expected to host the UK’s largest MBR, serving a population of more than 437,000 people.
James Gray, Key Account Manager at DuPont, said:
“We’re looking forward to working closely with United Utilities’ Enterprise through the design and delivery phases, and to supporting United Utilities operationally as the technology is brought into service.”
James Davies, Regional Delivery Manager, for the United Utilities’ Enterprise, said:
“Procuring MBR technology at scale and doing it earlier in the AMP, gives us the benefits of economies of scale, greater certainty and quicker delivery, alongside improved standardisation and long-term operational value. It also helps us meet tighter water quality requirements for the environment which will benefit the communities we serve.”
The announcement comes as United Utilities begins its largest investment in water and wastewater infrastructure for a century, investing more than £13 billion over the next five years of AMP8 to protect and enhance more than 500km of rivers, lakes and bathing waters.
HUBER Technology UK & Ireland are inviting people to register for their March webinar where they will be providing information about HUBER water intake screens for municipal and industrial applications.
