Portsmouth Water has published the draft of a new Drought Plan for consultation.
The current Plan was approved by the Secretary of State in 2008 and sets out the measures which the company intends to utilise to maintain supplies in the event of a drought affecting water resources.
Under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 and the Drought Direction 2011, all the water companies are required to maintain and update Drought Plans. A key element of the Portsmouth draft is how the company has proposed to implement the temporary use ban powers afforded to it under the Floods and Water Management Act 2010. The powers allow the Company to choose which activities to ban and when it is appropriate todo so
Portsmouth Water is now seeking comments on the new Drought Plan. Deadline for submissions, which must be sent to the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, is Friday 9 March 2012.
Following the consultation Portsmouth Water will then publish a Statement of Response to the representations and submits a draft Final Drought Plan to the Secretary of State by Friday 11 May 2012.
