SMS has expanded beyond its traditional smart metering business into wider energy, low-carbon and water infrastructure, following significant growth in the UK and internationally.
The company, which manages more than 7.5 million meters, has entered UK water infrastructure and German energy metering as part of its continued expansion into new markets.
SMS has now brought its expanded businesses and capabilities together under one brand for the first time, spanning Energy, Low Carbon and Water.
The launch comes as the UK prepares for an estimated £40 billion of clean power investment each year to 2030, with new technology and better use of data expected to play a critical role in creating a more flexible, affordable and secure energy system.
SMS has built on its metering heritage, infrastructure and data expertise to expand into new markets, with capabilities spanning technology, field services, infrastructure, data, funding and long-term asset management.
Together, these capabilities allow SMS to deliver integrated solutions for customers responding to growing energy, infrastructure and sustainability challenges.
Metering remains a significant part of SMS’s operations, but the infrastructure and data underpinning it are becoming increasingly important to the wider energy system. Across Great Britain, 42 million smart and advanced meters are now installed in homes and small businesses, generating data that can support a better understanding of energy demand and a more flexible energy system.
