Southern Water will start work in September on a £2.3 million water mains replacement scheme in West Sussex - the village of Cocking is set to benefit from a major programme of water mains replacements.

The water network overhaul will reduce the risks of leaks and bursts and improve the resilience of local water supplies
The work will involve replacing ageing water mains with new, more durable plastic pipes across the village and surrounding area,as part of an 18 month programme.
The scheme forms part of Southern Water's wider £100 million investment to reduce leakage across the region through a range of measures, including finding and fixing hidden leaks, pressure management and the installation of smart meters.
Replacing older cast iron pipes with modern plastic mains will help improve the resilience of the water network, reducing the likelihood of bursts and helping to provide a more reliable water supply for customers.
The 18-month programme is expected to be completed by February 2028.

Leaks have reduced for the third consecutive year across the Southern Water network, with a reduction of 12% so far this year. Alongside proactive measures like water mains replacement, teams work around the clock using new technology, and specially trained dogs, to find and fix leaks more quickly.
