Southern Water launches “You Save, We’ll Pay’ incentive scheme for Hampshire and Isle of Wight businesses

Southern Water is launching its “You Save, We’ll Pay’ incentive scheme for businesses across Hampshire and Isle of Wight – the scheme will start on Friday 1 August 2025.

This initiative was first used in 2022 to accompany the hosepipe then, and it helped save 8 million litres of water over just three months.

Southern Water is launching the scheme a week after a hosepipe ban came into force for households following the driest spring in more than 100 years and a series of heatwaves across its region, which had left precious chalk streams the Test and Itchen under serious strain.

To register for the scheme, businesses must supply one meter reading from their premises, taken at some point between Friday 1 August and Friday 8 August 2025, via Southern Water’s dedicated webpage.

Businesses must then aim to use 10% less water during the period between 1 August and 30 November 2025, compared to what they used during the same period in 2024.

A second reading must then be provided at some point between 1 December and 8 December 2025 which will be used to demonstrate any saving

Businesses that successfully achieve the 10% saving will receive a volumetric adjustment equivalent to 10% of their 2024/25 Wholesale Water charges, to be returned to them as credit in their account.

This credit will be applied, via the water retailer serving the business, by January 2026.

Managing Director for Water, Tim McMahon, said:

“We know that many businesses in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are keen to play their part in the wider collective effort to reduce water use this summer, to make sure taps keep running and we protect our precious chalk streams.

“The ‘You Save, We’ll Pay’ scheme means they can do just that – and save money in the process. The more water we can save now, the less likely it will be that we have to bring in further, more disruptive, restrictions later in the summer. We would like to thank everyone for playing their part.”
