South East Water has launched the UK water sector's first 25 Year Environment Plan which puts people and planet first – known as H25.
Launching H25, the water company said it has implemented the long-term plan to future-proof water resources for the environment, and the next generation.
The 25 Year Environment Plan is the first of its kind to be written by any water company and includes contributions from customers, employees and other environmental organisations.
The plan was created with more than 200 customers, stakeholders and employees and further shaped through a public consultation, which received 400 responses.
The plan, which has been directly influenced by through a series of online workshops throughout the year., goes above and beyond traditional business plan cycles and exceeds statutory obligations.
The plan aligns with Defra's 25 Year Environment Plan and demonstrates how the water only supplier will exceed its statutory duties to provide a holistic and long-term solution to pressing environmental issues.
The plan sets out how South East Water will limit its own impact on the environment from which it draws raw water to treat, together with how it will improve the overall health of the environment and increase its resilience to the effects of drought, flooding and increasing demand for tap water.
South East Water will deliver the plan together with its partners, to keep rivers and underground water sources healthy and protect and enhance the natural environment, while helping it adapt to a changing climate.
The water company intends to review the plan at least every five years so it is continually looking ahead to the next quarter of a century.
