Severn Trent’s award-winning apprentice programme is now open for applications – the water company is set to create 100 new jobs via the scheme.
The opportunities range from operations, engineering, digital, technology, finance, environment and much more. Since 2020, the company has quadrupled the number of opportunities as creating jobs for people in the Midlands continues to be a priority.
Jade Pearson, New Talent Lead at Severn Trent said:
“What better way to kick off the New Year, than to open up applications ready to welcome our next wave of fantastic new talent into the business, as we continue to create work opportunities for hundreds of people living in the Midlands. We’re lucky that we have such a varied programme, and so many different options for people to consider – and this year we’ve even added seven new different programmes.
“While we do have the vital operational, technical and engineering roles that you’d expect with a water company to help keep everything flowing, we actually also now have roles within software development, digital tech design and governance, as well as business, finance, environment, cyber security and even an opportunity to work in our laboratories. Our roles are as diverse as the region we live and work in, so there’s something for everyone to explore, no matter where you’re from or who you are.”
Severn Trent’s apprenticeships allow people the chance to learn and earn, and if they successfully pass, are guaranteed a job at the FTSE 100 company.
Nathan Worton, 34 from Birmingham is in his third year of his apprenticeship. After working in retail for years, and then studying psychology, he felt a role in HR would be the perfect career change and joined Severn Trent in 2020 as a HR apprentice.
He commented:
“I was drawn to Severn Trent as not only are they a big local company, but they have great rewards and benefits and seemed to really look after and value their employees. My apprenticeship has given me loads of opportunities and I have done tonnes of development and have access to so much training and support. Not only that though, I have had the opportunity to become a mentor in the community, have volunteering days that I can choose how I use them, I have also been involved with Pride events and raising money for WaterAid. The different things to get involved with are endless, all while still working on my apprenticeship, earning a salary and getting heaps of valuable experience.
“I’d really encourage anyone who’s even just thinking about a change or looking to start their career, to explore what’s available as Severn Trent really is much more than just a water company.”
More recently Severn Trent’s apprentice team has been recognised for the work they do – they are winners of the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards 2023 winning Engineering & Manufacturing Employer of the Year, while also receiving the Royal Princess Training Award, that recognised its contribution in the apprentice space.
The scheme is now open for applications and closes on March 29th.
