Work gets underway this month to enhance the water network across areas of Widnes and Warrington as part of United Utilities’ multi billion-pound investment plans for the region.
The water company is undertaking a variety of activities over February and March as part of a long-term plan to safeguard sustainable water supplies for the area.
The work over the coming weeks follows on from a number of projects in recent years to ensure water sources are not put at risk as demand increases due to population growth.
The latest activity will involve reconditioning water mains and bringing different water sources, including ground water sources, into the network.
Sinead Young, Senior Capital Project Manager at United Utilities, explained:
“As part of our £5.9 billion investment package for 2020-25, this work ensures we can continue to deliver high quality water to customers in parts of Widnes and Warrington in a way that balances the needs of the environment too.
“By enhancing our water mains and using different raw water sources we can ensure we’re offering the best quality and value for our customers, while also protecting the environment, improving efficiency, and enhancing resilience in the network.
“This all supports a greener, stronger North West and ensures our customers will continue to enjoy great quality water from their taps.”
