Water efficiency - Severn Trent launches three month Community Water Saving Champions initiative

Severn Trent is recruiting 100 new Community Water Saving Champions across Leicestershire and Derbyshire as part of a two to three month initiative to help make homes water-efficient, whilst helping to reduce energy bills.

Severn Trents said the Community Water Saving Champions will make a positive difference in local communities at pop-up events and by talking to customers in their neighbourhoods, helping to advise people on how to save money by reducing water consumption, which can in turn help reduce water and energy bills.

They will also provide information on Severn Trent support schemes that customers can access if they’re struggling to pay their bill, as well as showing people how to access free products that will help reduce water use.

The water company will provide successful applicants with full training on home water efficiency measures and money saving tips.

Sophie Evans-Young, Head of Water Efficiency at Severn Trent, said:

“At Severn Trent we’re committed to making a difference in the communities where we live and operate, and at a time when people are facing cost-of-living pressures, by sharing advice on how to make homes more water efficient, this will help reduce water and energy bills.

“These new roles will include taking part in pop-up events at various locations across Derbyshire and Leicestershire such as supermarkets and local attractions and visiting people's homes so if you’re a confident people-person, a good listener and are interested in helping people, we’d love to hear from you!”

“Throughout the year, our teams have worked hard to protect water supplies during the driest conditions in a century, and even though we’ve had some rain in the last few weeks, we’re asking people to still be mindful of water use as we head towards next year, especially if there is a dry autumn and winter. Our new Community Water Saving Champions will help inspire people to make small changes that really can add up to a big difference.”

By helping homes be as water efficient as possible, Severn Trent said it is also making sure that the water network continues to be in a good condition going into 2023.

With both full time and part time opportunities available and two roles, a Community Water Saving Champion and a Team Leader position, the new jobs offer flexibility and guaranteed 16-37 hours of work per week, with a £150 bonus payment upon completion of employment.

Applicants will be able to work whichever 4 days during the week they prefer on a 4-hour shift basis between 09:30 – 19:00, with a guaranteed 16-37 hours of work per week, for a 2 - 3-month period, together with local opportunities and travel support if necessary.
