The utility company will begin work on Monday 19th April to upgrade part of the existing wastewater network in the areas of Seabank Road, Closeburn Avenue and Park West.
This will include increasing capacity on the wastewater network, installing new equipment and carrying out modifications to manholes.
When completed, the scheme will improve the performance of the network during storm weather conditions by reducing the number of times unscreened storm water is released into the local estuary. This will deliver a boost to the environment by improving water quality in the river.
In order for the scheme to be carried out safely a road closure will be in place on Closeburn Avenue from 26th April, for approximately eight weeks.
Pedestrian access will remain at all times and vehicle access for residents will be available outside of working hours. Work on this essential upgrade is expected to be completed by the end of June.
Clara Hughes, Welsh Water’s communications representative said: “This essential scheme reflects Welsh Water’s commitment to invest in its wastewater network for the benefit of its customers and the local environment. We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience which may be caused and to thank local residents for bearing with us while this essential work is carried out.”
Welsh Water is investing heavily and working hard to ensure top quality services to all the communities it serves. The company is investing £1.2 billion in its water and sewerage network between 2010 and 2015.
It is a ‘not-for-profit company’ which has been owned by Glas Cymru since 2001. Welsh Water does not have shareholders, and any financial surpluses are reinvested in the business for the benefit of customers.
