Severn Trent’s multi-million pound investment in Newark is continuing to make good progress - the major £60 million project will see the complete overhaul of the waste and water network in the Nottinghamshire town in order to both protect people and homes and businesses from flooding and also to ‘future proof’ the water supply.
Tim Sawyer, programme engineer for Severn Trent, said some of the water pipes in Newark are relatively old and, as the town expands the water company has to improve the network of pipes to ensure it can keep up with the new buildings.
In total, more than 12 miles of waste and water pipes will be replaced in Newark, with the work carried out by BNMAlliance.
Severn Trent’s work in Newark is due to finish in 2020.
The project, when completed, will see hundreds of homes protected in Newark from sewer flooding and will guarantee locals a reliable water supply for decades to come.
