Irish Water is progressing with upgrade work at its Shannon Wastewater treatment works working in partnership with Clare County Council.
The water company is currently investing over €3 million on improvement works at the plant in Shannon and on cleaning and surveying the sewers and wider wastewater network in the town.
The survey work on the town’s sewer network is now complete. Over 30km of wastewater pipes were cleaned and surveyed as part of this €600,000 project in order to identify any repair, upgrade or replacement needs on the network.
The information gained from the survey will help identify any illegal discharges to the network and also allow Irish Water to prioritise works needed to address issues with the wastewater network in the town.
As part of the ongoing upgrade works the existing Domestic Aeration Basins at Tradaree Wastewater Treatment Plant will also be cleaned over the next two weeks.
Near-real-time microbial monitoring of wastewater discharge and bathing waters is now possible thanks to the BactoSense ID solution created by Swiss-based bNovate Technologies.
