The water industry is continuing to play its part in the delivery of new homes in the UK by maintaining its high standards of services to developers, according to the latest performance report from industry trade body Water UK for the period July to September 2016.
Water UK has produced a set of standards that developers and others can expect from water companies in relation to the provision of infrastructure for housing development – since July 2015 the organisation has been reporting on levels of services achieved.
The quarterly report measures water company performance in dealing with a broad range of activities which are essential for housing development against levels of service that customers, developers and self lay organisations can expect in relation to the provision of water services infrastructure.
Water companies are publishing this data to provide transparency about their performance and to help drive improvements. These standards also form part of the government initiative to publish levels of service for all utility providers.
Water companies have seen a sustained average improvement against a range of targets since the first report in 2015, with levels of service performance at 98% for water supply and 99% for sewerage for July to September 2016.
Amid growing stakeholder interest, the online system has now been adapted to provide actual volumes of activity, providing users with a greater ability to analyse the data and compare individual companies' performance.
Commenting on the latest results, Water UK said:
“Although it is positive to see this improvement across individual metrics of performance, the water industry is committed to improving further from today's results. As such, further changes to the reporting system are being reviewed in response to comments from a range of stakeholders.”
