Anglian Water has confirmed that 42 field jobs are to go – with about 50% as a result of moving to single manning and cutting teams in the field down to one rather than two.
A company statement said:
"Since January, we have been talking to staff and negotiating with our trade unions, resulting in a proposal to modernise our working practices. Under this proposal, employees moving to new working patterns will receive a payment of £5,300, while all staff will receive a 2.3% pay rise. In the current economic climate, we feel this is a generous offer."
"Unfortunately, this modernisation will result in the loss of 42 jobs. Almost 50 per cent of these have been voluntary. These losses, while regrettable, will help drive down costs and improve job security for the remainder of our 3,800 employees."
