Southern Water are starting work on a £3M scheme to improve the wastewater system in Haywards Heath.
The scheme will increase the capacity of the sewers, provide additional infrastructure and support future growth and development in the area. The improvements will involve the laying of a 300m long sewer under America Lane from the land at north-east corner of Hanbury Park Stadium to Hanbury Lane. Another 200m long sewer will be laid northwards under Haylind Road public open space to join the existing sewer near the Scrase Valley Nature Reserve.
Gary Sayers, Senior Project Engineer for Southern Water, said:
"We are pleased to be carrying out this work which will increase the sewerage capacity to accommodate new homes and developments."
The improvement works are being carried out by supplier 4Delivery, a consortium comprising of United Utilities, Costain and MWH, with works being started earlier this month and completion for June 2010. 4Delivery is currently in the final stages of constructing £700 million environmental improvements and water quality schemes under the AMP4 programme for Southern Water across Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
