A nationwide survey by the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) has found that the top concerns of the UK’s contractors are staffing (reported by 23 per cent), workload (by 21 per cent), and bureaucratic procurement (by 19 per cent).
In contrast, just 4 per cent of contractors listed a possible Brexit as a top concern facing their businesses.
Commenting, CECA Head of External Affairs Marie-Claude Hemming said:
“Our research has suggested that while Brexit is dominating the headlines, there are other pressing concerns that are threatening infrastructure growth.”
“CECA calls on the Government to focus on the delivery of its infrastructure programme and prioritise the necessary skills to do so.”
“The UK’s contractors are poised to deliver the projects that will define our roads, rail, and power sectors for years to come.”
The Civil Engineering Contractors Association represents over 300 contractors of all sizes, covering approximately 80% of the civil engineering market in Great Britain.
CECA are calling for the Government to ensure the projects it has announced go ahead, to work with industry to streamline the procurement process, and address the skills deficit, in order to ensure the strongest possible basis for economic growth.
