Thames Water update on water resources for London and Thames Valley

Following media reports on below-average rainfall and possible hosepipe restrictions in the northwest of England, Thames Water said it is continuing to monitor water availability.

A spokesman for the company outlined the current situation for its customers in London and the Thames Valley:

"From June last year to May this year we've had 99 per cent of the long-term average rainfall for our region, which is why our reservoirs are currently full, groundwater levels are healthy and we don't foresee having to impose any water restrictions at this time.

"That said, weather predictions are never entirely certain and we continue to encourage our customers to use water wisely. For our part, we have reduced leakage by 27 per cent in the last five years, providing greater resilience against drought.

"We continue to monitor our water resource predictions on a regular basis and will keep customers informed if the outlook changes."
